2009 Troop 1539 Kayaking 50 Miler Trek

Sunday, July 12
Arrive, already fed, at Penrose Point State Park in Lakebay between 6 and 7PM. Camp at the Cascadia Marine Trail, on the south end of the Park, along the water. When entering the Park, turn right into the south parking lot.
The other conventional camping sites are in the parking lot to the left.
There are water, toilet, and shower facilities available. Lights out at 1100.

Monday, July 13
Reveille at 0800. Everyone provides their own breakfast, although hot water will be available from the Ahrens and Zantek stoves. Eat and secure all gear by 0900. High tide is at 0925; time to get underway. Cross the bay and proceed between the Kitsap Peninsula and Fox Island at Gig Harbor.
Arrive at the Cascadia Marine Trail campsite at Tacoma Narrows. Afternoon activity will be a short hike across the Narrows Bridge and return. Mr Zantek will remain behind to safeguard all equipment, since this is a public park. Dinner will be provided by the Perraults and Zanteks (Pizza). There
is water available at this campsite and a Porta-Potty. Lights out at 1100.

Tuesday, July 14
Reveille at 0800. Everyone provides their own breakfast. Morning activity
will be (TBD). Secure all gear by 1030. High tide is at 1056, time to get
underway. Approach to observe but otherwise stay clear of bridge casements.
Paddle along west side of the Narrows and into Colvos Passage. Stop for lunch break at Lisabuela Park on Vashon Island. Depart and paddle to Rinehart's property at Southworth. RAFT UP before reaching and paddle together to clear the Southworth Ferry Terminal. Arrive no later than 1700.
There is water available but not showers at this campsite. Dinner to be provided by the Ahrens and Groulik families.

Wednesday, July 15
Reveille at 0800. Everyone provides their own breakfast. Morning activity will be completion of BSA Kayaking Badge. Secure all gear by 1045.
Underway at 1100 and paddle to Blake Island for lunch and exploration.
There is water, toilet, and shower facilities at this site. The snack bar at the Island is open. Underway at 1600 and paddle to Manchester State Park. There are water, toilet, and shower facilities at this camp. Dinner will be provided by the Warner and Shirley families. Lights out at 1100.

Thursday, July 16
Reveille at 0530. Everyone provides their own breakfast. Secure all gear by 0615. Low tide is at 0630, time to depart. Paddle to Fort Ward on Bainbridge Island and take a break for a meal. Return to paddling enroute Browsnville Marina and haul out no later than 1330.
