Silver Lakes
Silver Lakes Way Trail – Olympic National Forest

We'll leave Saturday morning from the VFW at 8:00am (be at the VFW at 7:30am) and return Sunday afternoon. The hike is about 3 miles with about 1500 feet of elevation gain. We’ll register to camp at the Silver Lakes trailhead kiosk.

To get there: Take Louella road off of WA Hwy 101 to Palo Alto road. Follow that into the mountains to FS road 2870 for about 16 miles. You’ll leave the pavement when you turn right toward the Dungeness Forks campground (it gets bumpy) and drive past the signs for the Dungeness and Tubal Cain trailheads. The Silver Lakes trailhead is about 1 miles pas the Tubal Cain trailhead. There is parking on the sides of the road for several cars at the trailhead.

There is no charge to camp since it’s in the Olympic National Forest but each car should have a parking pass ($5 for a weekend or $30 for a year at Sportsman Warehouse).

There are two lakes and we’ll try to camp in the meadow at the far end of larger one, however there are a lot of campsites around the lake. In the afternoon we may take a day hike up the grassy chute that runs up to the ridge. From the ridge we’ll hike in either direction as there are a lot of mini-summits and awesome views.
