4/10/2015 (5:00 PM) - 4/11/2015 VFW Hall Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) WHO: ALL Boy Scout, Varsity, (Venture and Sea Scout)** Leaders who strive to complete the BASIC Training Requirements and wear the TRAINED patch. ** Crews with Outdoor Programs only WHAT: This course meets the Outdoor Requirements for ALL Boy Scout, Varsity and Venture Leader BASIC Training. This “hands-on” training is a Wood Badge prerequisite. The instruction will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid, planning campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and backpacking techniques, nature identification, and Leave No Trace. This outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout Leaders from your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders. BRING: Your backpacking dinner for Friday night. A Boy Scout Handbook and program appropriate Leader’s Handbook, note-taking materials, Tent, Personal Camping Equipment, and wear your uniform. We will be camping outside, and some of the classes will be held inside the Hall. Please bring a favorite skit &/or song to share @ Campfire Friday night.
